Course description.

Spa therapists and professionals have a strong understanding of what constitutes a 5-star client experience.

As a spa therapist, you will be accustomed to respecting a client’s privacy and autonomy, accommodating their needs in regards to their body, and ensuring their experience is as relaxing, vitalising, and validating as possible.

This course empowers you and/or your team of spa therapists to offer the same high calibre of service to your trans and/or non-binary clients.

It will give you and/or your team the chance to learn about what being transgender, non-binary or gender non-conforming means, how to welcome and accommodate a trans person, and how to navigate any challenges or worries you might have.

The course is led by industry veteran Sam Marshall. It includes spa-specific accommodations and solutions for offering an incredible service to your trans clients.

Delivered virtually or face-to-face, this course empowers therapists with the knowledge and tools to offer a high standard of service and care to their trans clients.

This course covers:

  • the gender, sex and identity spectrum

  • a breakdown of the LGBTQIA+ acronym (including what each letter stands for!) and an exploration of the trans umbrella and the identities that exist within it

  • exploration of pronouns and titles, including how misgendering works and how to avoid invalidating someone’s identity

  • what body and gender dysphoria are, and how to use appropriate, affirming language to ensure your client feels safe and validated

  • information on employment law relating to trans and non-binary staff and clients

  • how to de-gender your services and client approach to ensure greater accessibility for all

  • what to do and what not to do when welcoming, accommodating and providing a service to a trans or non-binary client

  • how to confidently greet and take bookings from people who may be transgender, non-binary or exist outside the gender binary

  • managing the client’s journey through the spa, such as accessing wet areas, etc.

  • how to accommodate non-surgical enhancements, such as wigs or chest binders

How the course works.

  • The course is either carried out online, via a secure, private Zoom link or in person at your premises (or alternative training space).

  • The course can last from 90 minutes for an overview or 3 hours/half day for a full, comprehensive session. There will be multiple comfort breaks throughout.

  • The course is carried out live by our expert trainers who are available to answer your questions in-session.
