Course description.

Salons and salon professionals have a strong understanding of what constitutes a 5-star client experience.

As soon as someone sets foot in your salon, you and your team will no doubt be doing your utmost to create a comfortable, high quality and truly memorable client journey for that person.

This course empowers you to offer the same incredible calibre of service to your transgender, non-binary and gender nonconforming clients.

During the course, everyone attending will have the opportunity to learn about what being transgender, non-binary or gender non-conforming means, how to welcome and properly accommodate a trans person, and how to navigate any challenges or worries you might have.

The course is led by industry specialist Sam Marshall The Beauty Guru and Keri Blue of Hair Has No Gender. The content is completely specific to salon professionals and the kind of services you provide and includes practical guidance on how to support your trans clients in the salon environment.

Delivered virtually or face-to-face, this course empowers your team with the knowledge and tools to offer a high standard of service and care to their trans clients. Topics covered include:

  • the gender, sex and identity spectrum

  • a breakdown of the LGBTQIA+ acronym (including what each letter stands for!) and an exploration of the trans umbrella and the identities that exist within it

  • exploration of pronouns and titles, including how misgendering works and how to avoid invalidating someone’s identity

  • what body and gender dysphoria are and how to use appropriate, affirming language to ensure your client feels safe and validated

  • information on employment law relating to trans and non-binary staff, customers and guests

  • what to do and what not to do when welcoming, accommodating, and providing a service to a trans or non-binary client

  • how to de-gender your services and client approach to ensure greater accessibility for all, particularly how you can adapt pricing and treatments list so they’re not restricted or defined by gender

  • how to confidently greet and take bookings from people who may be transgender, non-binary or exist outside the gender binary

  • how to create a gender affirming space for a trans client and any non-surgical enhancements they may have, e.g. cutting or styling a wig.

How the course works.

  • The course is either carried out online, via a secure, private Zoom link or in person at your premises (or alternative training space).

  • The course can last from 90 minutes for an overview or 3 hours/half day for a full, comprehensive session.

  • The course is carried out live and led by our expert trainers who are available to answer your questions in-session.
